South San ISD Votes To Give Superintendent Layoff Power To Fight Deficit

The superintendent of the South San Antonio ISD now has the power to lay off employees in order to deal with a budget deficit. The school board voted on Wednesday to give Superintendent Henry Yzaguirre the say-so. The district has about 1,200 employees and says it needs to cut 20 positions in an effort to help close a $12 million budget shortfall. The reduction in force reportedly won't affect teachers at elementary campuses.
