Former Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo is withdrawing his acceptance of a police oversight job in Austin. He announced his decision in an X post on Tuesday. Acevedo has served as a police chief or interim police chief in Austin, Houston, Miami, and Aurora, Colorado. He would have been one of five assistant city managers, serving as a liaison between the city manager's office and the police department. City Council learned of Acevedo's appointment on Friday, and many council members said they didn't support the decision.
