ERCOT Rescinds Emergency Alert, Still Calls For Reduced Electricity Usage

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is explaining what Wednesday's Energy Emergency Alert 2 was all about. The agency says the alert didn't mean controlled power outages were on the way, but that ERCOT had access to more power reserves to help prevent outages. Even after rescinding the alert, ERCOT asked Texans to conserve electricity use between 6 and 9 p.m. Hot weather, high demand, and low generation from wind and solar all led to the call to conserve, which doesn't indicate emergency conditions for the state grid.
