Texas Overpowers Rice 37-10

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Rice Owls 37-10 on Saturday in their season opener.  

Quinn Ewers completed 19 passes for 260 yards and accounted for four touchdowns (three passing and one rushing), tying his most touchdowns accounted for in a game. 

KEY STATISTICS

• The Owls got on the board first with a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter.

• Quinn Ewers passed to running back Jonathan Books for a 37-yard touchdown to give Texas a 7-3 lead.

• Jaylan Ford recorded his fifth career interception to become the fourth linebacker in program history to achieve that feat.

• Bert Auburn kicked a 49-yard field goal to extend the lead by 13. Texas took a 16-3 lead into the halftime break.

• Ja'Tavion Sanders scored a touchdown on a pass from Ewers with 5:33 left in the third quarter, making it his longest career reception at 44 yards and his sixth career touchdown. Texas extended the lead to 30-3.

• Ewers scored his second career rushing touchdown. the Longhorns led 37-3 with 57 seconds left in the third quarter.

• Jett Bush recovered the Owl's fumble near the end of the third quarter.

• The Owls scored a touchdown with 3:04 left in the fourth quarter to make the score 37-10.
