Governor Abbott is expected to announce a new chair of the Public Utility Commission soon, following Peter Lake's resignation on Friday. Lake will stay on as a commissioner for the agency until July 1st. Abbott appointed Lake in April 2021, shortly after the deadly widespread power outages in February of that year. Lake helped craft an incentive-based plan to help the state's power grid resist weather disasters. But several state lawmakers argued that the plan didn't do enough to ensure the construction of new fossil fuel-fired power plants.
