School Districts Object To State Plan To Raise Educational Standards

Hundreds of Texas school districts are opposing a plan to raise the state's educational standards. A district currently gets an A rating from the state if 60% of its students are considered ready for college, a career, or the military, but the Texas Education Agency plans to raise that threshold to 88%. Officials from about 250 districts have sent a letter asking for a delay in the proposed change. The letter went to Gov. Greg Abbott, T-E-A Commissioner Mike Morath, and the chairs of the House and Senate education committees.
