A new Texas Senate bill is intended to prevent gun sales to people who were involuntarily hospitalized for mental illness between ages 16 and 18. State senators passed the bill on Wednesday, the first one they'd passed this year. A 2009 law requires county and district clerks statewide to send info about court-ordered mental health hospitalizations to the Department of Public Safety. The state police then send the records to the FBI's background check system. After last year's school shooting in Uvalde, it came to light that local court clerks weren't sharing that information concerning juveniles.
