US Home Births Hit 30-Year High In 2021

More than 50-thousand American babies were born at home in 2021. Last year's total was 12-percent more than in 2020, following a 22-percent jump in home births from 2019 to 2020. It's also the highest level since at least 1990. In a report out today, the CDC says the surge in home births over the past two years corresponds "with the initial surge of COVID-19 cases in the United States." Home births still are rare in this country, accounting for just over one and-a-quarter percent of all births in the U.S. last year.
