Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is making a strong pitch for new gun safety regulations after the deadly mass shooting in his hometown of Uvalde, Texas. McConaughey met with President Biden at the White House and then told reporters -- "This time, it seems something is different." McConaughey grew emotional talking about the 19 students and two teachers who were shot dead at an elementary school in Uvalde. He said the U.S. has a responsibility to curb deadly gun violence.

McConaughey insisted Americans have a "life-preservation problem on our hands." He noted he has been a gun owner most of his life and has always been aware of the awesome power of firearms. McConaughey said there's broad support for more reasonable gun safety regulations, including among many responsible gun owners. He didn't take questions after his remarks.
