Metro Health: Most Cases Of Heat-Related Illness Since 2018

Local health experts say they're seeing more heat-related illnesses than at any time since 2018. Dr. Ralph Riviello of University Health says rising temperatures lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Metro Health has received reports of 60 cases of heat exhaustion and one heat stroke this year. At this time in 2019, there were only 18 reported heat-related illnesses, and 34 cases in both 2020 and 2021. Dr. Riviello says the keys to avoid injury are to stay hydrated and stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
