Joe Pavelski sparked Dallas to a strong start against the Devils. Pavelski scored two first-period goals in the Stars' 5-1 win over the Devils in Newark. Jacob Peterson, Roope Hintz and Jani Hakanpaa added goals for Dallas as well. Braden Holtby allowed one goal and made 36 saves as the Stars improved to 22-16-and-2. Jesper Bratt scored New Jersey's lone goal in the second period. Devils goalie Akira Schmid was taken out after giving up three goals on seven shots in the first period. New Jersey drops to 15-21-and-5.
