Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is displeased with a ruling from the state's highest criminal court. On Wednesday, the Court of Criminal Appeals struck down a law that allows the attorney general to unilaterally prosecute election cases. The court found that the law permits an intrusion by the executive branch into the judicial branch, thereby violating the separation of powers clause in the Texas Constitution. The all-GOP court ruled 8-1 that the attorney general can get involved in a case only when asked to by a district or county attorney.
