A Kendall County man is on his way to prison for 50-years for child sex abuse. In late August, 54-year-old Richard Dewhirst entered a guilty plea to the crime of continuous sexual abuse of a child or children. As part of the plea deal, the State of Texas dismissed charges of indecency with a child, violation of a protective order, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The prosecution had hoped for a life sentence. The plea deal doesn't protect Dewhirst from being prosecuted on behalf of any additional victims who may come forth.
