DOJ To Ask Supreme Court To Block Texas Abortion Law

The Justice Department is asking the Supreme Court to block Texas's controversial new abortion law. 

This comes just hours after a federal appeals court ruled that it can remain in effect during the legal challenge. 

The Texas law is the most stringent in the nation as it bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. It also allows anybody to sue a provider if they feel a rule is being broken. 

The Supreme Court is already set to hear a different abortion case in December, stemming from a Mississippi law.
