The U.S. Justice Department is once again trying to block the controversial new Texas abortion law from taking effect.
The law was blocked by a judge last week, but that decision was overturned just 48 hours later by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals - leaving abortion clinics scrambling to cancel appointments booked just days earlier.
Now the Biden administration is pressing the courts to reinstate the temporary ban, declaring “If Texas’s scheme is permissible, no constitutional right is safe from state-sanctioned sabotage of this kind".
