A Texas Senate Democratic filibuster over an elections bill has come to an end. Houston Senator Carol Alvarado wrapped up her 15-hour floor speech just before 9 a.m. this morning. Alvarado told Senate colleague she believed Senate Bill 1 would start Texas back on the road to slavery and chip away at democracy. She also said it added barriers for minority voters, seniors, and those with disabilities and makes it easier to intimidate people at the polls. Republicans say the bill is needed to prevent voter fraud. A special session on the bill and other issues is currently going on. There's no movement in the Texas House because Republicans can't get a quorum due to missing Democrats.
