Temporary Migrant Shelter Moved

A temporary shelter that will house migrants who have tested positive for COVID-19 is now in a new location. Hidalgo County officials announced yesterday that the emergency shelter has been moved from McAllen to Anzalduas Park in Mission. The shelter had been set up earlier this week in McAllen after Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley informed the city that its respite center was at full capacity. But officials said the park is a much better choice to house migrants released from federal custody who need to be isolated due to their COVID-19 status. The shelter can house up to 650 people.
