Number Unaccounted For Rises In Florida Condo Collapse

The number of people unaccounted for in the collapse of a condo tower in Florida is much higher this morning. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said this morning that 159 people are unaccounted for in the collapse of the building in Surfside, Florida, just north of Miami Beach. The number of those unaccounted for had been 99. The mayor said 120 people are accounted for and the death toll has risen to four.

It could take years to find out why a Florida condo building collapsed without warning. Engineers have already started their investigation. One thing they'll be looking at is a study from last year, claiming the high rise was unstable. Researchers said it's been sinking at an alarming rate since back in the '90s. The building was undergoing its 40-year inspection. A $5 million lawsuit was filed last night against the owners.
