Sweeping voter reform in Texas is one step closer to becoming law. Texas state senators worked late into the night last night to pass the legislation before a deadline that could've allowed the bill to be filibustered and killed. Senate Bill Seven features provisions limiting early voting hours, cutting local voting options, and puts more hoops in place to vote by mail. It would also ban drive-through voting and 24-hours day of early voting which was offered in Harris County last year. A Harris County election office analysis says half of the votes allowed with those provisions were from Black and Hispanic voters. The Texas House is expected to vote on the final bill later today.
