Texas Republicans want to allow school staff to carry guns on school grounds for security. A.J. Louderbeck with the Sheriff's Association of Texas supports the bill. But Kathy Martinez-Prather, director of the Texas School Safety Center, told a committee hearing it should be up to local districts whether they want to take part in the program. She says it may make sense in rural areas, but it may not be appropriate in urban settings, where police can quickly respond.
