To-Go Alcohol Sales Bill On Its Way To Governor's Desk

A bill that's on its way to Governor Greg Abbott's desk would allow Texas restaurants to offer to-go alcohol sales as a permanent option. The bill would permit beer, wine and mixed drinks to be included in delivery and pickup food orders. To-go alcohol sales have been allowed since last year as a temporary measure to help restaurants make it through the pandemic. Republican state Rep. Charlie Geren, owner of a Fort Worth barbecue restaurant, filed House Bill 1024 to make the option permanent. The House passed the bill in March, and the Senate approved it last week. Abbott has expressed support for the idea.
