Former Spur LaMarcus Aldridge Retires

Former San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge has announced he is retiring from basketball following a recent health scare.

Aldridge announced his decision on social media. He stated he recently played with an irregular heartbeat and his conditioned worsened. He was checked out by a hospital, recovered and then made the tough decision to put his health and family first.

"Though I'm better now, what I felt with my heart that night was still one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. With that being said, I've made the decision to retire from the NBA. For 15 years, I've put basketball first, and now it is time to put my health and family first," Aldridge stated.

Aldridge, who is 35, had just joined the Brooklyn Nets a few weeks ago after leaving the Spurs. He signed a new deal with the Nets on March 28 after agreeing to a buyout with the Spurs.

Aldridge had missed the Nets' past two games with what the team called a non-COVID-19 illness.

The Nets say they support Aldridge's decision to retire.
