Police Union: New Contract May Be Negotiated Prior To Prop B Election

The police union's negotiating team says a new contract with the city could happen before the Proposition B vote on May 1st. If voters pass it, Prop B would strip the San Antonio Police Officers Association of its collective bargaining power and put a stop to any contract talks. A contract ratified ahead of the vote would be in effect for five years, regardless of what voters decide. There could be enough City Council members willing to vote on a deal before the election. But some big issues are still unresolved, so it appears unlikely a new deal will be ironed out in time for the council to ratify it.
