House Oversight Committee Holds Hearing On DC Statehood

Whether Washington, D.C. will be the 51st state is up for debate.

In a House hearing, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said District residents are "still not free" as they remain disenfranchised by Congress.

Bowser says D.C. statehood is the "glaring" civil rights and voting rights issue of our time.

House Oversight Chair Carolyn Maloney said adding D.C. as a state should not be about politics, but instead about equality and democracy.

Meanwhile, ranking Republican member James Comer of Kentucky says D.C. statehood is "flatly unconstitutional" and is a key part of the radical, leftist agenda to reshape America.
