PUC Says Power Companies Can't Cut Off Customers For Non-Payment

The Texas Public Utility Commission says power companies can't cut off customers for-non payment after the winter storm that caused electric bills to go through the roof. The commission has decided they will not reprice the cost of energy bought during the storm. An independent market monitor found that the state's electricity market overcharged ERCOT an estimated one-billion-dollars by leaving emergency pricing on longer than it should have been in place. C-P-S energy has said unless the utility gets relief from he federal government it would be difficult to offset the price for customers. In addition, starting today, utility companies can start charging late fees again.
