VP-elect Kamala Harris is no longer a U.S. senator.
Harris formally resigned in a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom today. Newsom has already announced Harris' successor in the Senate.
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will fill out the remainder of Harris' Senate term.
The VP is also President of the Senate so Harris will be plenty busy at the Capitol, breaking ties.
The Senate will be split 50-50 but Democrats will have the majority with Harris as the tiebreaker.
