The chairman of the Texas Republican Party says he wants the state GOP to step up its outreach to minority communities. Allen West is a retired Army officer and former Florida congressman who took the leadership of the Texas GOP in the summer. West said at a news conference on Friday the party is making progress among minorities who usually vote for Democrats. West pointed out that President Donald Trump got more minority votes in this year's election than any Republican presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in 1960.
