Federal Prosecutors Drop Texas Bump Stock Case

A Houston-area man will not be tried for fitting his rifle with a bump stock. Federal prosecutors dropped the case against 44-year-old Ajay Dhingra on Monday. A former ATF agent was set to testify bump stock-outfitted rifles don't meet the legal definition of a machine gun because the trigger needs to be pulled to fire each round. Dhingra was earlier convicted of lying when he bought the weapons, and of illegally owning a weapon after being mentally committed. The Trump Administration banned bump stocks in 2018.
