A North Texas lawmaker wants to make changes to the state law that gives homeowners the right to shoot to protect their property. State Rep. Terry Meza of Irving feels it encourages people to open fire, even for minor offenses. The bill she filed in the Texas Legislature would pare down the state's Castle Doctrine, so that it would no longer allow home owners to use deadly force when it comes to stopping a robber. It would remain in effect in cases where someone's life is in danger. It has already drawn a swift rebuke from gun rights groups. The NRA says Texas should instead expand property owners' protections against lawless looters and rioters.
