Coronavirus is putting a halt on this year's Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon. The city decided to cancel the early December event today citing rising cases of COVID-19 across the country. Mayor Ron Nirenberg says he's disappointed in the decision but thinks it's important to suppress the virus as much as possible. The plan is to bring it back next year.
In a news release, organizers said:
"In meetings leading up to the event, the regional safety and health authorities were satisfied that Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series proposed health and safety measures were well designed, and that participants, staff and the wider public would have been sufficiently protected from potential COVID-19 transmission. However, after further conversations with city and health officials following a recent increase in cases across the greater San Antonio region, we regret to share that the event cannot take place in 2020 and will now return on December 4-5, 2021.
All registered participants of the 2020 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon should have now received an email with further details. If you have additional questions or have not received the email with further information, please contact rnrsanantonio@runrocknroll.com.
While we are prevented from holding the event in 2020, we thank our participants for their commitment and look forward to providing them with an exceptional race experience in the future."
