Judge Blocks Texas From Doing Away With Straight-Ticket Voting

Texas is still allowing straight-ticket voting after a judge blocked a GOP effort to get rid of it. This means residents can vote for all candidates under one party with a single ballot mark. U.S. District Judge Marina Marmolejo ruled Friday the change would have led to long lines at the polls, increasing the amount of time voters are exposed to the coronavirus. It also would have meant recalibrating voting machines or reprinting ballots. Around two-thirds of Texas residents who voted in the 2018 general election used the straight-ticket option.
