House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling the ongoing coronavirus outbreak an historic national tragedy.
Pelosi told reporters that it "didn't have to be this way."
She condemned the Trump administration's response to the crisis and said the President has contempt for science.
Pelosi also noted the latest grim milestone in the coronavirus crisis. The U.S. death toll surpassed 200,000 this week.
The number of confirmed cases in the U.S. is nearing seven million.
