A program that keeps the lights turned on for Texans who miss paying their utility bills is set to expire at the beginning of October. The Public Utility Commission enacted the Electricity Relief Program in March to help people who lost their jobs during pandemic-related shutdowns. The program has laid out more than 30 million dollars since March, and is shielding nearly 600,000 households from utility disconnections. But it expires on October 1st, and some customers could even be stuck with back payments.
