1 DNC Night 3: Kamala Is Official, Obama Puts Trump On Blast
The Democratic presidential ticket is official set – and California Senator Kamala Harris has officially made history (as the first woman of color on a major party's presidential ticket), formally accepting the vice-presidential nomination during the third night of the Democratic National Convention. Before we got there? Much of what you’d expect – courtesy of a number of heavyweights including Harris herself, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others – but something few may have. And that came from former President Barack Obama. Mr. Obama, was supposed to be the final speaker of the night, but he reportedly wanted Ms. Harris to “have the final word.” When he stepped up, POTUS 44 offered a positively searing indictment of the Trump years – both professionally and personally.
2 American Sanctions Against Iran To Be Restored
President Trump says the U.S. will restore sanctions against Iran. He called the Iran nuclear deal brokered under the Obama administration “a complete failure.” During a White House press conference, he blamed the deal for providing the Iranian regime with loads of cash. "This deal funneled tens of billions of dollars to Iran, $150-billion to be exact plus $1.8 billion in cash,” Trump noted. “I don't know the president had the authority to give….just another great deal that turned out to be a total disaster that would have funded all the chaos and bloodshed in the region and the world.” Trump said he believes Iran will come to the negotiating table after the November election and added that Iran "will never have a nuclear weapon" as long as he is president.
3 CDC Wants To Test Sewage Systems For Coronavirus
The CDC is ready to get dirty to find traces of coronavirus. It wants to work with state and tribal health departments to test wastewater. The idea? To see if the virus that causes COVID-19 is shedding from people and traveling through the sewage system. The CDC says this type of testing can also be a sign of a worsening outbreak depending on how much is found. And it’s not such a crazy idea – sewage testing has been used to find other diseases, such as polio.
