State Supreme Court Won't Hear Challenge To Abbott's Pandemic Authority

The Supreme Court of Texas is declining to hear a case challenging Governor Greg Abbott's ability to issue executive orders during the pandemic. A group of professionals, ministers, private citizens, and two Republican state representatives had issued the challenge, claiming Abbott's orders violate the separation of powers and the Texas Constitution's Bill of Rights. The court said it lacked jurisdiction because the petitioners had bypassed the traditional legal process by filing their case directly to the Supreme Court.
