Two McAllen Police Officers Killed

Two police officers in McAllen, Texas are dead after being shot this afternoon.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said the two officers did not have a chance to save themselves. 

Officers Edelmiro Garza and Ismael Chavez were killed responding to a domestic violence complaint. 

When additional officers arrived they ordered the suspect to put down his gun. They said instead he used the gun to kill himself. 

The suspect is 23-year-old Aldon Caramillo

Garza was 45 and had been with the McAllen Police Department for about nine years. Chavez was 39 and had been there for more than two years.

In a tweet, the department said, "McAllen is hurting & our hearts & prayers go out to them during this difficult time."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he had spoken with McAllen's police chief and offered the full support of the state. the governor said Two of our finest were killed in the line of duty while working to protect residents in their community. "We unite to #BackTheBlue," said Abbott.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tweeted, "Our prayers and full support are with the valiant men and women of the McAllen police department this evening."
