Texas Republican Party Chairman James Dickey says next week's in-person state convention in Houston is proceeding as planned. Mayor Sylvester Turner is encouraging the party to cancel the event and make it a virtual one instead. Turner says the convention is a bad idea, and is appealing to Republicans to be responsible in the face of the ongoing pandemic. The Texas GOP convention is set for July 16th at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
