3 Things To Know Today

1 White House Teases Upcoming Exec Orders

The White House is teasing plans for upcoming executive orders from President Trump on China, immigration and prescription drugs. Speaking to Fox News, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows says here’s what we can expect: An order on China will focus on bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. Meadows didn’t specify what’s happening regarding immigration, but it’s worth noting that according to new regulations just released, foreign students will be forced to go back home if their schools are “online only” this fall. As for pharmaceuticals, Meadows was similarly short on details. “We’re going to look at a number of issues as it relates to prescription drug prices,” Meadow offered. “We’re going to get them done when Congress couldn’t get them done.” Meadows also took the opportunity to posit Trump's upcoming orders against Joe Biden's record, saying "this President will do more in the next four weeks than Joe Biden and his team did in the last 40 years."

2 Fauci: Protection From COVID Vaccine May Be Short-Lived

The nation's leading infectious disease expert says protection from a potential coronavirus vaccine may be short-lived. As companies are ramping up efforts, Dr. Anthony Fauci said he does not know how long antibodies might provide immunity against infection. Why that matters? Antibodies could determine how often someone might need to receive a vaccine to prolong protection. Fauci added the potential immunization will not be like a measles vaccine, which the CDC says generally offers lifelong immunity. This would likely be something more like the annual flu vax. So what about President Trump’s weekend remarks saying that “99-percent of coronavirus cases are harmless?” Experts may be pushing back, but the White House is doubling down. Speaking with reporters, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the remark was a "factual statement rooted in science" adding that the case mortality rate in the U.S. is very low and its much lower than other countries.

3 Trump Goes After NASCAR, Bubba Wallace

President Trump says the noose found in NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace's garage was a hoax – and is calling on Wallace to “apologize” to NASCAR officials for having jumped to the conclusion that the noose was racially motivated. Along the way, Trump also claimed that NASCAR's ban on the Confederate flag has caused their ratings to drop. Thing is? NASCAR neither wants Wallace to apologize, nor do other drivers. The organization says they’re firmly in Wallace’s corner – and as NASCAR’s Tyler Reddick put it: 'We don't need an apology. We did what was right and we will do just fine without your support.' As for those ratings, as NASCAR execs confirm, with hours after the ban on Confederate flags being put in place, ratings jumped – and they’ve stayed that way by about 104-percent. What Wallace HAS said? "Love should come naturally as people are TAUGHT to hate," Wallace tweeted yesterday. "Even when it's HATE from the POTUS .. Love wins."
