3 Things To Know Today

1 Trump: Coronavirus Will 'Just Disappear'

President Trump says he believes the coronavirus will "just disappear" as cases rise in several states nationwide. In an interview with Fox Business Network, the president maintains that the country will be "very good" with the virus. He said that he also expects a vaccine very soon. As for masks, Trump says he supports wearing them - and points out that he's worn one, adding, "I looked like the Lone Ranger." Hotspot states like Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas have recently re-shut down businesses to combat the spread. While a number of source have been trumpeting 52-thousand cases reported in the last 24-hours, it’s worth mentioning that in that same 24-hours, 24-thousand Americans have also recovered. Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence says the drive to find a vaccine for the coronavirus will see "no compromising safety" on creating and distributing the shot. Speaking with reporters, Pence also suggested that those who have recovered fully from COVID-19 donate convalescent plasma to help treat other patients. Pence also noted that nearly one-million Americans have fully recovered from the virus.

2 White House Pressed Again On Russia Bounties Story

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany says the U.S. always acts in the best interests of American troops around the world. During a briefing, McEnany again disputed reports that Russia put bounties on the heads of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. She confirms that President Trump has been thoroughly briefed on the matter, but insists that the reports have based on "unverified" intelligence. For his part, Trump has said publicly that he believes the reports are “a hoax.” Perhaps he believes that, but a number of officials – those speaking anonymously and in public – say otherwise.

3 Army Confirms One Vanessa Guillen Suspect Captured, Another Dead

The U.S. Army is confirming one suspect is under arrest and another is dead in the disappearance of Army Private First Class Vanessa Guillen in Central Texas. The military says a soldier took his own life yesterday near Fort Hood after being confronted by Killeen police and U.S. Marshals. Officials say the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier was also arrested. No identities have been released. The Army says the pair were involved in the disappearance of Private Guillen from the post in April. While officials haven’t confirmed that remains discovered near a river this week are those of Guillen, her family says they are. They also say that until they started going public about Private Guillen’s disappearance, they were ignored by officials. Prior to her disappearance, Guillen reportedly told her family that she’d been sexually harassed by a superior.
