City's 'Trial Budget' Shows Belt-Tightening Ahead

The San Antonio City Council is juggling budget priorities as they take into account the city's reduced revenues during the pandemic. On Thursday, city staff presented council members with a "trial budget" for the next two fiscal years. So far, the numbers point to a shortfall of 109-milion-dollars. The council is considering cuts in street maintenance, arts funding, and employee pay in order to close the gap somewhat. City staff looked at ways to reduce programs supported by restricted funds, such as hotel occupancy tax and airport revenue.
