Members of the San Antonio City Council are asking for the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue from Columbus Park. District 1 Councilman Roberto Trevino on Wednesday filed a council consideration request, which also calls for renaming the park the Piazza Italia. Several other council members also signed the request. The document states the Italian Society has asked for the statue to be removed and will accept its return to their organization.
