SAPD Chief Says Collective Bargaining Agreements Protect Bad Cops

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says collective bargaining agreements protect police officers accused of misconduct. McManus spoke to the city council on police policy Wednesday afternoon. He said state laws and collective bargaining agreements tend to make it hard to get rid of bad cops. More than two-thirds of San Antonio officers fired for misconduct in the past ten years have been reinstated. The current agreement between San Antonio and the police union expires late next year.
