Texas Supreme Court Rules Against Mail Voting Expansion

The Texas Supreme Court is blocking an effort to expand vote-by-mail due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Justices unanimously ruled state law does not define a lack of immunity to coronavirus as a disability. The Court noted it was not taking a side on mail-in ballot policy saying it was up to the Texas Legislature to make that decision. The Texas Democratic Party and two voters sued the state in March saying the Election Code allowed voters to declare they had a disability if they believed social distancing was needed to keep coronavirus from spreading.
