Eviction hearings and debt collections can resume tomorrow. Both were put on hold during the pandemic, but the Texas Supreme Court issued two new emergency orders on Friday. Evictions can now start as early as May 26th. Renters covered through the CARES Act are exempt from any eviction-related actions through August 23rd. Debt collectors can begin garnishing wages later this month, though the debtor or collector is entitled to a court hearing to determine what money is protected by the CARES Act.
