A man suspected of trying to break into a car has died after getting into a shootout with a homeowner on the city's south side.
Police say it happened at about 3 a.m. today at a house near Deely Place and South Flores.
Officers say when the suspect was confronted by the homeowner, he pulled out a gun. That's when the homeowner pulled out a gun and both started firing shots. The suspect fled the scene after the gun battle, but was found a short distance away in a nearby park where he had bled to death. Police are continuing to investigate.
