Senate Dems: Boost Pay For Workers On Frontlines Of Coronavirus Battle

Senate Democrats want to boost pay for workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus battle.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called them true heroes who must be taken care of with a "significant boost in hazard pay." Washington state Democrat Patty Murray said frontline workers are making incredible sacrifices for the public good.

Schumer says healthcare professionals are putting their lives at risk every day, along with first responders and clerks at grocery stories and pharmacies.

The Democratic proposal faces an uncertain future in the Republican-led Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is not enthusiastic about more emergency spending after recent passage of the roughly two-trillion-dollar stimulus bill.
