U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge intercepted a significant amount of hard narcotics totaling $2.4 million in street value.
“The methods of drug trafficking syndicates are continually evolving, becoming sophisticated in their methods of evading detection,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Fortunately, our drug detection technologies help us stay in front of the new trends.”
The seizure occurred when a CBP officer at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge referred a 2006 Nissan Altima for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 36-year-old female U.S. citizen traveling from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total 115.39 pounds of alleged methamphetamine and 2.43 pounds of alleged heroin concealed within the vehicle.
