  • State health officials are still studying how bars could reopen, but no decision has been made yet.
  • The first human tests of a possible coronavirus vaccine is underway. Pfizer and Bio-N-Tech are working together and began testing their vaccine yesterday.
  • San Antonio’s Metro Health believes we’ve flattened the curve, with most recent new cases coming from the jail, not the community.

  • Metro Health reports 108 more coronavirus cases in Bexar County. 65 of those are from the Bexar County jail.

  • Metro Health reports 103 new cases in Bexar County. 91 of them were from the jail

Thursday, April 30

  • Metro Health is reporting 48 more cases of coronavirus in Bexar County. There have now been 1,374 cases since the pandemic began and of them 638 have already recovered. That’s more than 46%.
  • There have been 48 deaths.

Wednesday, April 29

  • Metro Health reports 19 new coronavirus patients and 2 new deaths. 45% of all patients have now recovered.

Sunday, April 26

  • Metro Health reports an additional 34 patients have recovered from COVID-19, while there were 23 new cases reported today.
  • 42% of all cases have now recovered, with more than 531 people now listed as recovered.
  • There were no new deaths reported today.
  • 58 people are hospitalized. Since the pandemic began there have been 1,254 cases.

Wednesday, April 22

  • There are now 21,069 confirmed cases in Texas. That’s an increase of 873 cases from yesterday, with 543 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 200 of the 254 counties
  • There are 1,263 cases in Travis County (Austin.) There have been 28 deaths. 82 people are hospitalized.
  • There are now 1,126 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio.) That’s an increase of 46 cases from yesterday. The death toll remains at 39. 79 people are hospitalized. That’s down from 82 yesterday.
  • President Trump is urging the House to quickly pass an extension of the coronavirus small business relief program. The Senate passed the over $400 billion measure.
  • Harvard is returning federal funds given to the university under the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. 
  • The University of Texas will decide in late June how to proceed with Fall semester classes.
  • Texas is asking to be included in a pilot program that enables SNAP recipients to order groceries online. 
  • A city-appointed economic transition team will plan the reopening of San Antonio's businesses once the stay-at-home orders are lifted.

Monday, April 20

  • There are now 19,458 confirmed cases in Texas. There have been 495 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 198 of the 254 counties
  • There are 1,108 cases in Travis County (Austin.) There have been 25 deaths. 81 people are hospitalized.
  • There are now 1,029 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio.) That’s an increase of just 14 cases from yesterday. There have been 39 deaths. The same number as yesterday. 81 people are hospitalized.
  • Face masks now required to be worn in public places in San Antonio.
  • President Trump says he's ordering a medical products company to make swabs under the Defense Production Act.
  • The White House is pushing Congress to provide more cash for the Paycheck Protection Program. 
  • The U.S., Canada and Mexico are extending border travel restrictions due to the ongoing coronavirus threat.
  • State parks reopened today.
  • Governor Abbott has a news briefing tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. to update the state
  • Restaurant chain Shake Shack is giving back the $1 million it got from the federal coronavirus stimulus package. The company says it would rather smaller businesses in need receive the money.
  • United Airlines is reporting a two-billion-dollar loss for the first quarter as travel demand fell sharply amid the coronavirus pandemic. 
  • More than 100-thousand Disney employees will not be getting a paycheck this week. The company is suspending pay for thousands of so-called cast members to save Disney up to 500-million-dollars a month across its theme parks and hotels.
  • Disney characters are now available to wish the kids a good night. Shop Disney has set up a bedtime hotline where children can get a special message from Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy or Goofy.
  • Bon Jovi cancels 2020 tour.
  • Facebook is removing some events on its platform aimed at protesting stay-at-home orders. 
  • Bexar County is delaying the May election on Pre-K 4 SA until November. 
  • West Texas Intermediate crude for May delivery plunged more than 300% to trade in negative territory for the first time amid falling demand and a worldwide oil surplus.
  • The Dow lost 592 points today.

Friday, April 17

  • Strike force team setup to plan out reopening of the state. Steps will be taken in stages. Some reopening will happen this month, with more to come in May.
  • Governor signs executive order dealing with retailing. The governor says all retailers should be able to operate retail-to-go starting next Friday.
  • Governor says state parks will be reopened n Monday, however social distancing must continue Governor says all school campuses will remain closed the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year for all public, private and higher education. All learning to remain virtual rest of this school year.
  • More steps to be announced next week and then more on April 27, followed by more in the middle of May as we reopen in stages.

Wednesday, April 15

  • There are now 15,492 confirmed cases in Texas. That’s an increase of 868 cases from yesterday, with 364 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 184 of the 254 counties
  • There are 977 cases in Travis County (Austin.) That’s an increase of 77 cases from yesterday. There have been 17 deaths. 89 people are hospitalized.
  • There are now 890 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio.) That’s an increase of 75 cases from yesterday. There have been 37 deaths. 89 people are hospitalized.
  • President Trump is reporting signs of progress in stopping the spread. He says data suggests some areas are past the peak of the outbreak.
  • President Trump has a call with governors tomorrow and then will unveil guidelines on when to reopen the country. Indications are it will be on a state-by-state basis, with some states possibly reopening by the end of the month.
  • Governor Abbott will announce guidelines on Friday detailing a timeline for Texas to reopen.
  • San Antonio forms new health committee to advise leaders on when to reopen San Antonio.
  • Germany plans to start reopening its economy on Monday. 
  • The Texas Workforce Commission says there were 1.2 million unemployment claims in the last 4 weeks. That amount is what they normally would see over an 18 month period.
  • The Department of Agriculture is telling Americans not to worry about the country's food supply. Secretary Sonny Perdue said it is "strong, resilient and safe." 
  • SWBC Foundation is donating $50,000 to the San Antonio Food Bank.
  • Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich gave San Antonio Food Bank volunteers a pep-talk today, calling in and talking with them for about 45 minutes.
  • Google is automatically dropping the video quality of Nest cameras in order to conserve internet bandwidth. 
  • Starting tonight, Sony is giving away two Play Station Four games, no strings attached. It's a thank-you to gamers for staying home during the coronavirus pandemic. 
  • A key member of the federal coronavirus task force is getting her own bobblehead. Doctor Deborah Birx is receiving the honor from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. 
  • The Dow lost 443 points today.

Tuesday, April 14

  • There are now 14,624 confirmed cases in Texas, with 318 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 181 of the 254 counties
  • There are 900 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 14 deaths. 92 people are hospitalized.
  • There are now 815 confirmed coronavirus cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 33 deaths. 89 people are hospitalized.
  • President Trump plans to talk with the governors of all 50 states soon on plans to re-open the country. 
  • Major U.S. airlines have reached a deal with the Treasury to share $25 billion in aid.
  • PayPal, Square and Intuit have been given approval to offer loans to small businesses under the Payment Protection Program. 
  • President Trump is halting payments to the World Health Organization and is assessing the WHO's role in “mismanaging” the early spread of coronavirus in China. 
  • Walmart is now offering curbside pickup for anyone deemed high risk for COVID-19.
  • Kroger's CEO says the company's pickup and delivery business is growing rapidly during the coronavirus pandemic.
  • UPS, Microsoft, the American Hospital Association and Kaiser Permanente are introducing an app that will let people donate personal protective equipment more efficiently. 
  • Ivermectin, a drug frequently used as an antiparasitic in cases of head lice, is being researched as a potential coronavirus treatment. Doctors have seen positive preliminary results using the drug in conjunction with hydrochloroquine and antibiotics on patients.
  • The Cookie Monster is helping to keep kids entertained while quarantined at home. The series is called 'Snack Chat,' in which Cookie Monster talks about important healthy habits.
  • Another positive day on Wall Street. The Dow gained 559 points today, the S&P was up 84 points and NASDAQ was up 323 points.

  • There are now 13,906 confirmed cases in Texas, with 287 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 178 of the 254 counties
  • There are 856 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 11 deaths. 93 are hospitalized.
  • There are 794 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 33 deaths. 88 are hospitalized.
  • Dr. Anthony Fauci is defending the White House's response to the coronavirus pandemic, saying the President has taken action on the mitigation advice he's been given by health experts.
  • Economic impact payments are arriving. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says over 80 million people are expected to get their direct deposit by Wednesday.
  • Ford and 3M are teaming up to create a new air purifying respirator for COVID-19 patients.
  • The FDA is granting emergency approval for a coronavirus saliva test developed by researchers at Rutgers University. 
  • Texas Governor Greg Abbott is planning to outline later this week ways for businesses to reopen. 
  • Goldman Sachs will be offering 50-million dollars in loans to Texas small businesses to help them deal with coronavirus. 
  • Austin is unveiling a hotline to help area restaurants stay informed about regulations and guidelines involving the virus.
  • ESPN is asking some of its commentators to join network executives in taking voluntary 15-percent pay cuts.
  • The XFL has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will not return for a 2021 season.
  • Carnival Cruise Line is now canceling all cruises through June 26th.
  • The Texas Craft Brewers Guild is petitioning Governor Abbott to help the state's craft breweries during the pandemic. 
  • The Barbacoa & Big Red Festival will not happen this year in San Antonio. 
  • The Dow fell 328 points, the S&P 500 lost 28 points, but the Nasdaq gained 38 points today.

Thursday, April 9

  • There are now 10,230 confirmed cases in Texas, with 199 deaths. There are COVID-19 cases in 170 of the 254 counties
  • There are 642 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 7 deaths.
  • There are 615 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 22 deaths.  
  • San Antonio city council formally approved extending its Stay Home, Work Safe order until April 30th.
  • Mayor Ron Nirenberg says the city will crack down on non-essential San Antonio businesses that stay open in defiance of stay-at-home orders.
  • The San Antonio Food Bank distributed 1 million pounds of food today at Traders Village to over 6,000 people.
  • Dallas County will be paying a million dollars to two consultants to help develop a pop-up hospital in downtown Dallas.
  • The CDC says essential workers who were exposed to coronavirus can stay on the job as long as they don't have symptoms, wear a face mask and get a temperature check.
  • President Trump is expected to unveil a second coronavirus task force, one that will be primarily focused on the economy.
  • Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says the U.S. economy was on firm footing before the coronavirus crisis and is in a good position to recover.
  • The government says stimulus money approved by Congress should start appearing in taxpayer accounts as early as today. It expects most will be sent by early next week.
  • A new poll suggests teens aren't doing much learning with schools closed. Common Sense Media polled over 800 teenagers age 13 to 17, and 41% said they have not attended a single online class.
  • Panera Bread launches grocery delivery service for bread, dairy and produce.
  • With no Olympics to cover this year, NBC Sports is bringing back some of the top highlights from the three previous Summer Games.
  • A Seton Hall Sports Poll found 61% of sports fans said they would stay away from sporting events until there is a vaccine. 12-percent said they would be open to attending a game so long as social distancing can be maintained.
  • The NBA has organized an 8-player HORSE tournament featuring NBA and WNBA players. ESPN will air the first round on Sunday. 
  • John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews will be joining Willie Nelson for a streamed Farm Aid concert this weekend to benefit farmer hurt by the pandemic.
  • The Dow closed at its highest level since March 10th. Closing up 285 points at 23,719.

Wednesday, April 8

  • There are now 9,353 confirmed cases in Texas, with 177 deaths. There are COVID-19 cases in 167 of the 254 counties
  • There are 596 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 7 deaths.
  • There are 554 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 20 deaths.  
  • 100-thousand Texans have now been tested for coronavirus.
  • The new projected peak of coronavirus in Texas is less than two weeks away. Sooner than expected. Data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation says the peak may be on April 19th. 
  • The City of San Antonio is furloughing 270 workers due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • President Trump says the coronavirus outbreak is a time for the faithful to pray and reflect.
  • The Health and Human Services Department has inked a contract with GM for the production of ventilators.
  • The Census Bureau is sending paper forms to homes that haven't filled out the online questionnaire. 
  • H-E-B and Favor Delivery have expanded service to support even more Texans.
  • U-S-A-A will return more than a half-billion dollars in car insurance premiums to customers. The refund is due to less driving because of the coronavirus-related "stay home" orders.
  • Toyota’s suspension of production at the company’s San Antonio plant has been extended until May 4th.
  • Wimbledon had been paying $2 million a year for 17 years for an insurance policy that covered cancelation because of a pandemic. They’ll receive an insurance claim of $141 million.
  • The Olympic flame is no longer on display in Tokyo. Organizers say they don't want people to gather, so the flame is being moved to an unknown location.
  • Joel Osteen is lining up stars for his upcoming virtual Easter service. The Lakewood Church pastor tagged Kanye West, Mariah Carey and Tyler Perry as special guests for the service.
  • Facebook is creating a private space for couples to talk. The app is called Tuned. It revolves around a digital scrapbook to share notes, photos, cards, and voice clips.
  • The Dow ended up 779 points. 

Tuesday, April 7

  • There are now 8,262 confirmed cases in Texas, with 154 deaths. There are COVID-19 cases in 161 of the 254 counties
  • There are 554 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 7 deaths.
  • There are 503 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 18 deaths.  
  • 5 more Southeast Nursing and Rehabilitation patients have died. There have now been 8 deaths at San Antonio facility.
  • Texas state parks and historic sites are closed as of this evening.
  • The city of Austin is planning to tap into the city’s emergency reserve fund. City council will vote on the measure on Thursday.
  • Bexar County has issued a wage freeze and county-wide halt to capital projects. County projections predict a $70-$100 million tax revenue loss. The city of San Antonio had earlier projected a $50-$80 million drop in city revenue.
  • Texas Children's Hospital workers in Houston will be getting a stipend this week for their work fighting coronavirus.  $500 for FT, $250 for PT workers.
  • President Trump is cheering America's testing of the coronavirus. He told reporters over 1.8 million people have been tested for the illness
  • President Trump is touting the paycheck protection program. He's asking Congress for an additional $250 billion to put towards the program.
  • President Trump says he sees a "light at the end of the tunnel" and predicted the national economy will "take off like a rocket" once the crisis has passed.

  • Major League Baseball is considering starting the season with all teams in Arizona in empty stadiums.
  • The NBA won't decide before May 1st when to resume its season.
  • American Airlines is suspending most of its flights to the New York.
  • Peloton is canceling its live classes after an employee tested positive for coronavirus.
  • The Dow was up more than 900 points in early trading, but ended the day down 26 points.

Monday, April 6

  • There are now 7,276 confirmed cases in Texas, with 140 deaths. There are now COVID-19 cases in 157 if the 254 counties
  • There are 502 cases in Travis County (Austin) with 6 deaths.
  • There are 456 cases in Bexar County (San Antonio) with 12 deaths. 91 are hospitalized.
  • Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York may have reached its peak in number of new COVID-19 cases.
  • Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards believes the coronavirus curve may be flattening, but is vowing to keep mitigation efforts in place. 
  • Texas Governor Greg Abbott says social distancing is working and it’s slowing the spread.
  • Texas is creating checkpoints on the Louisiana border in hopes of stopping the spread.
  • Texas has received 2.5 million masks this week, with another 3 million to arrive next week.
  • The Texas Supreme Court is delaying evictions until after the end of the month.

  • 3 of San Antonio deaths were residents at the Southeast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. In all, 67 patients & 12 staff members have tested positive.
  • Surgeon General Jerome Adams is emphasizing that people shouldn't substitute social distancing with face masks.
  • President Trump says cargo planes have delivered millions of gloves, masks and gowns to hospitals that need them around the country. 
  • In a rare national address Queen Elizabeth assured people of better days ahead as she said, "we will succeed."
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pushing for a vote by the end of this month on the next stimulus package. 
  • Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, sends 10-thousand N95 masks to Indiana’s health dept.
  • NFL team executives are preparing to conduct the draft from their respective homes instead of team facilities. 
  • NFL kicking legend Tom Dempsey has died at the age of 73. He was exposed to coronavirus in a nursing home.

Saturday, April 4

  • There are now 384 coronavirus cases in Bexar County.
  • Officials are also reporting two more deaths. Both were men in the 80s. One of the men was a resident of the Southside Nursing & Rehabilitation facility where 67 patients & 12 staff members have tested positive.
  • The state of Texas is reporting 6,110 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 105 deaths. There are coronavirus cases reported in 151 of the 254 counties.

Thursday, April 2

  • There are now one-million cases of coronavirus around the world. 
  • There are now 4,669 cases in Texas, with 70 deaths. There are cases in 143 of the 254 counties.

  • Health officials have now confirmed 59 cases at the Southeast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio.
  • Two anti-malaria drugs touted for treating coronavirus are being fast-tracked for approval by the Food and Drug Administration.

  • President Trump is extending the White House's social distancing guidelines until April 30th. He predicted that the country will be getting back on track by June 1st.
  • The FDA has approved a new coronavirus test that will begin shipping out immediately. The new test delivers results in just a matter of minutes.
  • Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says stimulus check should arrive bank accounts of Americans within three weeks.
  • The Governor has announced that hospital beds available for COVID-19 patients have doubled over the past week. There are more than 16,000 available statewide. Additional beds are being set-up in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
  • The Governor extends travel restrictions calling for 14-days of self-quarantine for air travelers from California, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Miami. The state had previously enacted similar restrictions for anyone traveling from the New York Tri-State and New Orleans.

Friday, March 27

  • President Trump has signed the massive stimulus bill. The roughly $2 Trillion measure is the biggest economic rescue package in American history.
  • As of 5 p.m. there are 1,731 cases in Texas and 23 deaths. More than 23,000 tests have been administered.
  • As of 5 p.m. there are 160 cases in Austin, with 1 death and 113 cases in San Antonio, with 5 deaths. Note: San Antonio will provide new numbers later this evening.
  • Governor Abbott is deploying the National Guard to support drive-thru testing sites and coordinate support for hospitals.
  • Texas Attorney General Paxton says communities must allow firearms sales to continue, even in communities under “Stay Home” orders.
  • Texas Longhorns' quarterback Sam Ehlinger has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for COVID-19 relief. The goal is $1 Million.
  • Southwest Airlines is cutting 1,500 daily flights as the coronavirus slashes demand for air travel.
  • American Airlines is getting rid of the middle seat, at least during the coronavirus crisis. American will block half of all middle seats to create more space between passengers on planes. 
  • Walgreens has begun drive-thru shopping. The drug store chain says shoppers can now pull up to the drive-thru window and ask for a menu of available items.
  • ESPN has a new plan for what to air while it waits for live sporting events to resume. Starting today, the network will air Disney movies on Friday nights.

  • The U.S. now has more than 83,000 cases. That’s more than China or Italy.
  • There are now more than 1,396 coronavirus cases in the Texas. There are cases in 92 of the 254 counties.
  • There are 113 cases in San Antonio, with 5 deaths. There are 137 cases in Austin, with 0 deaths.
  • There have been more than 21,000 tests completed in the state.
  • Less than 10% of those tested so far in the state of Texas have tested positive. Of those who test positive, less than 10 percent require hospitalization.
  • Anyone traveling from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or New Orleans into Texas will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

  • The massive economic stimulus bill is pending in the Senate. A vote is expected tonight on the roughly $2 trillion stimulus measure.
  • The federal government has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Texas. The move makes more federal money and support available for Texas. 
  • Investors are celebrating two straight days of the Dow Jones Industrial Average finishing in the green. The Dow ended up 495 points.
  • Governor Abbott takes action to expand hospital capacity in the state and waives some licensing renewal regulations and fees for nurses.
  • Governor Abbott seeks approval for Texas Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to be able to use their benefits at take out and drive-thru restaurants.

Tuesday, March 24

  • There are now more than 700 coronavirus cases in the state, driven by a big increase in the number of tests being done. (As of 4 p.m. there were 69 in San Antonio and 86 in Austin)
  • Governor Abbott announces more than 11,000 tests have been done. 
  • Governor Abbott reminds us, “we’re Texans. Texans are always resilient and we will once again as we always do show the world how Texans do when we come together. When we come together, nothing can defeat us.”

  • President Trump says he would love to see the U.S. "opened up and just raring to go by Easter." He called it "absolutely possible" and argued that the U.S. is "not built to be shut down." 
  • The Senate appears to be close to a deal that will pump money back into the economy.

  • Houston rapper Slim Thug has tested positive.
  • Pizza Hut to hire 30,000 more workers across the country. Speeding up hiring process to have delivery people hired, trained and on the road in 5 hours. Dominoes recently announced its hiring 10,000 workers.
  • Verizon is automatically offering 15 gigabytes of extra data for customers due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Monday, March 23

  • New numbers will be released tonight, but as of now there are 57 cases in San Antonio, 79 in Austin
  • Dallas’ “Shelter-in-Place” goes into effect tonight. Waco and Boerne have announced similar measures. Houston says it is still monitoring. San Antonio and Austin drafting language for similar orders, but NOT yet ordered.
  • A bill to deal with the economic effects of the coronavirus is still held up in the Senate. Senators tried again today to clear a key procedural hurdle, but it failed 49-to-46. 
  • The Defense Department is moving forward with plans to set up field hospitals in areas hard hit by the growing coronavirus crisis.
  • Coronavirus researchers will be helped by a new computing consortium announced by the White House. Companies including IBM and Microsoft will team with MIT and NASA in this public-private partnership. 
  • H-E-B announces additional purchasing limits on some items in their stores
  • Ranger Creek Whiskey and Tito's Handmade Vodka among the latest Texas companies to make hand sanitizer to fight coronavirus.

Friday, March 20

  • There are now at least 400 cases in Texas. At last report there were 29 in Bexar County, 41 in Travis County, 6 in Hays County, 2 in Comal County and 1 in Kendall County.

  • Lawmakers will work through the weekend on a massive economic stimulus package.
  • The Trump administration is closing the border to all nonessential traffic between the U.S. and Mexico – similar to restrictions announced earlier for Canada.

  • Johns Hopkins researchers say there are more than 10,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 pandemic across the nation.
  • Governor Abbott issues a declaration ordering all restaurant dining areas, bars, and gyms to close until April 3. Restaurant carryout and delivery is still allowed.
  • President Trump says his administration is ramping-up efforts to find coronavirus treatments and a vaccine.
  • Task Force Doctor Deborah Birx says the national backlog on coronavirus testing is being reduced. 
  • The State Department is advising U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel.

  • The Treasury Department proposes a $250 billion in direct payments to Americans, starting April 6th. Another round of $250 billion start on May 18th.
