The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo is planning to evacuate about 400 Americans from a quarantined cruise ship in Japan. Carnival Cruise Lines' Diamond Princess has been quarantined in the port of Yokohama since February 3rd because of the coronavirus. Over 37-hundred passengers and crew are stuck on the ship after dozens of people tested positive for the virus. Two chartered planes are expected to fly the Americans home Sunday.
The embassy said the aircraft will arrive in Japan late Sunday, and people will be flown to Travis Air Force Base in California, with some passengers continuing to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. After arriving in the U.S., all will need to go through another two weeks of quarantine.
