A man who murdered his wife in 2005 is the first Texas death row inmate to be executed this year. Sixty-four year old John Gardner broke into Tammy Gardner's North Texas home and shot her in the head. The two of them were in the middle of a divorce. Gardner had a history of violence against his wife and other women. He apologized to his wife's family before he was given the lethal injection on Wednesday evening at the Walls Unit in Huntsville. Seven more executions are scheduled to take place in Texas in the months ahead.
